Tristan Abba - senior experienced Counselling and Clinical Psychologist - offers holistic evidence based approaches, dedicated to enhancing your resilience and fostering a positive, lasting change.
Tristan is a Masters-trained psychologist with registration with AHPRA. He is also a Board Approved Supervisor to provisional psychologists seeking to gain general registration with AHPRA. Since 2003, he has worked with government, not-for-profits, community mental health, and private practice settings on the Gold Coast and in Western Australia providing psychological and counselling services to populations with diverse and complex needs.
Tristan’s practice is always flexible and specific to your individual needs. To begin with, an initial assessment is vital to fully understand your current situation. Your first session will give you the opportunity to discuss your particular circumstances and help us to begin to put together an accurate idea of what's causing these problem areas in your life. This will direct a tailored approach to your psychological care involving appropriate interventions and healthy coping strategies to empower you to move forwards with your life.
Your first session will also give you the chance to ask your psychologist any questions so you can make sure that they are the most appropriate person for you. If this is not the case for any reason, your psychologist will happily make recommendations and referrals that are more specifically tailored to you.
Following on from your first session, Tristan draws upon a range of approaches from cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), interpersonal therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills, EMDR, and Mindfulness, all within a trauma-informed, neurodiversity affirming, and solution-focused framework.
In addition to working on issues like depression or anxiety, many people use psychology sessions effectively to:
Become more fulfilled in their lives and dropping the burden of stress
Set and achieve personal or professional goals
Get in touch with emotions; learn how to express and manage emotions assertively
Improve their relationships with parents, children, partners, and friends
Better understand how past trauma affects their present and stop it limiting their future.
”My aim is to partner with you to find solutions through psychotherapy. This can be achieved in a variety of ways and your sessions are customised specifically for you. Using several modalities, I support my clients to find the best path to healing and growth in their lives.”
