Workers Compensation & ICWA Psychologist

Perth Northern Suburbs

If you've been injured -physically or psychologically - as a result of your work, you may be entitled to funded psychological support through your WorkCover WA or ICWA claim.

Mind Harbour Psychology provides evidence-based counselling for workers navigating a compensable injury, with appointments available via telehealth or face-to-face in Perth's northern suburbs.

Who is this for?

I have a passion for working with individuals whose psychological injury has arisen from, or been significantly contributed to by, their work - including:

  • Work-related stress, anxiety, or burnout

  • Trauma following a workplace incident

  • Psychological injury secondary to a physical workplace injury

  • Bullying, harassment, or workplace conflict-related distress

  • Adjustment difficulties during a return-to-work process

We accept referrals under WorkCover WA, the Insurance Commission of WA (ICWA) for government employees, Comcare, and other approved third-party insurers.

How does a workers compensation psychology referral work?

  1. See your GP. Your treating doctor assesses whether your psychological symptoms are work-related and can provide a referral supporting your claim.

  2. Lodge or update your claim. Your claim is submitted to your employer's insurer (WorkCover WA or ICWA, depending on your employer).

  3. Get written approval. Approval for psychological services under a third-party claim generally needs to be confirmed by your insurer before your first appointment. We can help guide you through what evidence is needed.

  4. Attend sessions. Once approved, sessions are typically time-limited, with the number determined by your case manager based on your claim.

  5. Ongoing review. Your treatment plan and progress are reviewed periodically in consultation with your GP, insurer, and case manager where relevant.

What does it cost?

For approved WorkCover WA or ICWA claims, sessions are billed directly to your insurer at the applicable approved rate. There are no out of pocket costs applicable.

Telehealth or face-to-face?

Sessions are available either via telehealth or in person at our Hillarys location - whichever best suits your recovery and any physical limitations from your injury.

FAQs

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist under WorkCover WA or ICWA? Yes — you'll generally need a referral from your treating GP, along with written approval from your insurer, before your first appointment.

How many sessions will I get? The number of approved sessions is determined by your insurer's case manager after reviewing your claim, and is typically reviewed periodically as treatment progresses.

Can I do sessions via telehealth? Yes, telehealth appointments are available for workers compensation and ICWA clients, alongside face-to-face sessions in Perth's northern suburbs.

What's the difference between WorkCover WA and ICWA? WorkCover WA administers workers compensation for most private-sector employees in WA. ICWA (Insurance Commission of WA) is the insurer specifically for WA Government employees' workers compensation claims.

Will I be out of pocket? No out-of- pocket fees apply to approved work cover claimed appointments.
